Let's talk about clearing out negative energies from a space-house, office, warehouse, grounds, whatever. There are several traditional ways of clearing out the energetic gunk left by trauma and bad thoughts. If you have ever walked into a haunted location and gotten the heebie-jeebies, you know what I am referring to-that weird, hackle-raising, anxiety producing vibe that makes you feel like you want to get out of there, fast.
Our homes and workplaces can get that bad vibe too, and there doesn't have to be any trauma happening to create it. When people have fear, and build upon it by letting their emotions have full reign, it gets imprinted on the ethers in the space. After that, the bad vibes can attract all sorts of nasty energies into the area, thereby worsening the effect. The negative atmosphere then attracts disembodied spirits who had a lifetime in such energies and feel very comfortable in them. Those entities can then attach to the people who use those spaces. Where are the most common places to pick up hangers-on who follow you and suck your life energy out? Usually that would be hospitals, bars, cemeteries, slaughterhouses, war zones, etc. Wherever there is accumulated fear, there are usually lots of not-too-terrific entities waiting for a ride to a better place. Depending on one's religious or spiritual beliefs, one can either clear the space themselves or do it with the help of others who are good at it. Whenever one is moving into a new space, it's a good idea to clear out the old energies of the former occupants (both living and dead) as well as any other negative energies. "I don't know" he mused, "it just felt safe here."
Smudging involves use of a fragrant botanical, such as sage, cedar, sandalwood, amber or pine. You can either light a bundle of the leaves or resin on fire and then blow it out, fanning the smoke into corners, closets, cabinets, etc (being careful not to spread any sparks). If you prefer not to use fire you can use the essential oils of the botanical, a few drops in water, in a spray bottle. If you use either, use some common sense so you don't set something on fire or ruin your finest drapes with oily water drips.
Noises also clear a space; drum, horn, or hand claps will break up negative energy. Music of certain frequencies will clear energy, as will metal or crystal bowls (Tibetan brass bowls or crystal sounding bowls). For clearing people, frog choruses with rain works amazingly well (just warn the person to stay close to the toilet, since they will likely be purging from every orifice-especially if combined with Reiki).
Prayers and chants work because we are sending our Intent, in command form, out into the ethers, and calling in the higher power energies of enlightened/ascended masters such as Jesus, Buddha, Great Mystery, Ra, etc. usually the prayers and chants are done in conjunction with one of the other methods (incense for Buddhists, Hindus and Christians, sage for Native Americans).
Charged salt is protective and used most especially in extreme cases. Salt may be spread in its' granular form, or dissolved in water and placed in glasses around the room, or even combined with alcohol and burned. Salt may also be used in bathwater to cleanse an aura. Salt also has a long tradition of being carried in a wallet, to protect finances.
Whichever method you use, just start at the front door and go in a circle through every room, opening every door, drawer and cupboard. If you are doing a clearing to get rid of obnoxious entities, bring help and make sure you open the doors and windows a little, to let the nasties out (it is more common than you might think, to have a window broken as the nasty makes haste to exit).
For areas that are particularly gunked up, I suggest following the clearing with walking a circle around the entire building. Go three times counterclockwise, and four or more times clockwise, always in that order, in a mindful manner (don't let anyone disturb you, don't answer when they try to talk to you, and whatever you do, complete the entire ritual without stopping). This gathers all the negative energies into a tight bundle at the center, then the clockwise circles disperse it away from there, like sun melting ice into steam. Make sure the clockwise circles always number at least one more than the counterclockwise.
This last ritual works quickly, as evidenced by the experience of a neighbor. A young couple with two small boys moved into the apartment next to me, which was formerly occupied by a very nasty Satanist and his drama-queen mother. The walls were lined with shelves full of dolls on the mother's side, and who knows what, on the son's side. There was constant screaming of obscenities from that apartment the whole time they lived there and the scrawny pimple-faced jerk never missed an opportunity to call me names whenever he saw me.
When the young couple moved in, it only took about two weeks for them to realize something was wrong. The boys (sleeping in the satanist's room) started having nightmares, fighting, and getting really nasty with their parents. The young mother had no idea what had happened. As we exchanged greetings one day, she mentioned she thought moving there had been a bad idea, since their lives had taken a severe turn for the worse. After learning what had gone on in that apartment, and getting instructions for the circle ritual and smudging, I found the young woman diligently following my instructions to the letter. She didn't even acknowledge my greeting (good) as she walked mindfully around the building. The problems then ended as quickly as they had started, for which the couple was most grateful.
My own experience with clearings spans decades and came to good use one day when my late husband--who had a terrible temper--went to visit his mother in the nursing home. He was being such a jerk to me (for no good reason) that I decided to do a sneaky clearing. When he left, I ran around the house, smudging the heck out of everything, with all the doors and windows open. As I prayed, I could feel the energy lifting-layers and layers of it.
The smudging was followed up by the water bottle mister, with oils of sage, cedar, eucalyptus, pine, and peppermint. High frequency healing music was playing during the clearing also. When done with that, I set about making a concoction of rose water, peppermint/sage/chamomile tea, with a rose quartz stone in the teapot. Massage oil with rose, sage, amber, and eucalyptus was in a bottle next to my husband's favorite chair. Soothing music was on the stereo when he returned...wild-eyed and looking for a fight.
Inviting him to sit down, I poured him a cup of the fragrant tea and asked how it went. As he spoke I massaged his head, neck, and shoulders with the special oil. Without speaking to him, I silently prayed for his release. It took about 20 minutes before he suddenly sighed, letting go of all the negative energy he had been holding. Another 20 minutes and his soul was healed. "How did you know?" was the first thing he said. The next thing was "How did you do that?" (his mother was what we call a psychic vampire; she had sucked so much of his energy out that he was about to be physically ill).
It really is that simple, and works that quickly, to clear your space. Why not give yourself the best opportunity you can have for attracting your good to you?
