The Wolff family came from Kansas City, Missouri. They were a family of three, Lillian Wolff, her husband and their daughter Terry. In the mid-1960s, the Wolff family ministered a church off the streets of Nassau in the Bahamas.
On a particular day etched clearly in their memories, a girl called Naomi walked in as Mr. Wolff, the pastor, was giving his sermons. She was black, in her mid-thirties, and was a dancer and a hooker. At first, she seemed normal, but later, things changed. It began as she started emitting a strange grunting noise. As the preaching continued, she began uttering some really dirty words. She even called the pastor a liar. Till now the pastor had been ignoring her presence, but as she sunk to the floor and crawled her way to the altar, everyone turned towards her. Then, making a face profoundly horrible, she spoke in a demonic voice. The pastor laid his hands on her forehead “and prayed in the name of Jesus that this ugly demon spirit would come out of her”. She felt relaxed, the demon had left. Henceforth, she remained a Christian for the rest of her life.
The Wolff family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1968. There, they ministered the Calvary Temple Church in St. John Avenue. Terry was now married and had a six-year-old daughter called Julie. The church wasn't founded in a particularly good atmosphere, as Julie remarked as an adult:
All was fine until one day, another strange woman walked in, just like Naomi, she had a striking appearance, was in her thirties and was a go-go dancer. In a similar manner,she sat at the back of the church, rose up in the middle of the service and walked up to the altar and kept screaming in an evil voice, ‘we’re going to kill her and you can’t stop us’. The pastor asked the congregation to gather round the howling, trembling woman and pray, as he uttered:"It was culture shock, so many strange things happened around that church I couldn’t tell you. Prostitutes walking by. There was a bar next door and two bars across the street. It wasn’t odd that people would walk in intoxicated.”
Within days, Mr. Wolff was a different man.“One incident was while he was preaching, he thought he could walk along the back of a pew.” Julie remembers, “You know how small that is. He ended up falling and hurting himself.” Soon it became evident that the demon had accepted the challenge. “He was a very angry person. Just a complete personality change after that. On my twenty-first birthday he was at a bar buying me drinks.” Then he began having extra-marital affairs with a married woman."Come into me. If you want to pick on somebody, pick on somebody of my size. Come into me."
One day, he just disappeared from his family. His dear ones, already tired of his demeanor, let him go. Julie says. “I was very, very close to my grandparents. Contact is gone; there is none. It is sad. Any of us are going to open up a newspaper and he’ll be dead. That’s where we’ll find out he’s dead.”
It is strange that despite knowing that Mr. Wolff was possessed, no one ever tried to exorcise him. Perhaps if they did, this wouldn't have been the case. What do you say?
