Is Nibiru Really Going to Destroy the Earth? Jul 11
Over at the Life’s Little Mysteries website (a companion site to space.com), belief in the earth-destroying planet/star/comet commonly known as “Nibiru” is examined. If you’re unfamiliar with the idea of Nibiru, let me outline some main points (gathered from space.com):
Nancy Lieder originally predicted that a planet was going to collide with Earth in 2003. Obviously that didn’t happen, so her followers revised the date of doomsday to 2012.The word “Nibiru” comes from ancient Sumerian texts, which were translated by Zecharia Sitchin and used for his ancient alien theories in the book “The 12th Planet”. The prediction is that Nibiru is on a very strange orbit that only brings it near Earth every 3,600 years; lingering outside the solar system the rest of the time.Since no mysterious “Planet X” can be found, conspiracy theorists now believe that a comet named “Elenin” is to be the culprit of Earth’s desctruction. However, no serious scientists/astronomers remotely believe Elenin will come close to hitting the Earth.Some conspiracy theorists also believe that Elenin might actually be a brown dwarf star or be some large astronomical body being controlled by a UFO.
…and the list goes on and on. I recommend reading the full article as it might illuminate some of you, scare others, and provide comedic value for the rest. The theory’s “facts” have been changed and twisted so many times over the last 2 decades that I don’t believe any of it.
